Advanced personal rope skills: knot passes, rebelays, deviations, j-hangs, and guided rappels/climbs
Course Description:
Some rope users are faced with traversing complicated obstacles on rope necessitating advanced rope skills. In this class we will cover how to pass knots while ascending and rappelling, pass rebelays and deviations while ascending and descending, and how to navigate J-hangs and guided rappels/climbs. These on rope skills are required of vertical cavers, rope access technicians, and some canyoneers. Other rope users are encouraged to attend to gain experience with on rope maneuvers so they can develop on rope problem solving skills. Also, these skills are just fun!
Prerequisite Skills:
Attendees should be able to rappel, ascend, and perform changeovers effectively. It is suggested that you study how to perform these new on rope maneuvers prior to attending the class so we can work on fine tuning the skills rather than working on the basics the entire time.
Equipment Needed:
Personal protective equipment (helmet, gloves, and harness, ascending system, and descending system) is mandatory. Attendees will probably also appreciate having knee pads as well.
