Edge Transition Tactics
Course Description:
Moving a loaded litter over an edge is arguably the most complicated part of a rope rescue. Consequently, having an array of edge transition tricks and techniques is advantageous for any professional or volunteer technical rescue team. In this class we will cover many strategies and techniques for transitioning the litter over an edge. Attendees are encouraged to share their suite of edge transition methods with the rest of the class. A list of edge transition techniques and their descriptions will be generated after the seminar and sent to the attendees. The intent is to gather many experienced rescuers in one place to share edge transition methods so we can all improve our rigging.
Prerequisite Skills:
Ideally attendees would have experience in professional (e.g., fire service) or volunteer (e.g., MRA) technical rescue and could add to the communal discussion of edge transition methods. At the least, attendees would have experience on a technical rescue team and can safely work around edges.
Equipment Needed:
Each person must have a harness, helmet, and gloves to participate. For best results, bring your group’s litter, litter bridle, and system rigging equipment. While we can provide some gear, it will not be the same as your own, so bring what you want to use! Contact the instructor for information on the types of litters and rigging equipment we have available. Given the facilities we can have up to 5 edge transition scenarios running at any one time.
Location:
The class is offered at the Justice Training Center (JTC): 155 W. Hedding St., San Jose, CA. Directions- Take the North First Street (4A) exit off of Interstate Highway 880, turn south onto N First Street, travel two blocks and turn right onto W. Hedding St. Just past N. San Pedro St., take the first right and find parking. The class is located in the first building past the fence.
