The art and science of anchors: single and multipoint anchors in rope, cord, and webbing
Course Description:
Nearly all rope systems require an anchor or anchors, so anchor construction is an essential skill for all rope users. Covered here are the strengths and weaknesses of using rope, cord, webbing, and slings as anchor interfaces, and a detailed discussion of anchor science (pull tests, and drop tests). Attendees will learn and practice numerous single and multipoint anchors constructed of various materials. Students will be challenged to identify which anchors are most appropriate for different conditions, and construct situationally appropriate anchors.
Prerequisite Skills:
None. This class is beginner friendly, though expert rope users will find many nuggets of wisdom and will learn a few new anchors as well.
Equipment Needed:
Students are encouraged to bring their own (kermantle) rope, cord, webbing, sling(s), and a few carabiners. Some gear can be provided, but not enough is available for all students, so if you have any gear please bring it, though make sure it is labeled!
